Family Services and Accompaniment Internship

This one-year internship provides the opportunity to to live alongside immigrant families in a time of crisis, offering practical support, social connection, and mutual learning and growth.

Responsibilities may include: 

  • Connecting immigrant families with social services, legal services, and medical or mental health care; collaborating and networking with outside service providers
  • Transporting and accompanying individuals during medical, legal and other appointments
  • Equipping individuals to take on the above tasks independently, over time
  • Teaching adult ESOL classes or providing early childhood education for immigrant children
  • Incorporating immigrant families into community meals, activities, and outings
  • Contributing to work shared by all community members, including cooking, cleaning and outdoor projects
  • Engaging Jubilee’s Resident Volunteer Program as a part of each term’s volunteer cohort

The internship involves a one-year minimum commitment beginning either in early January or mid-August. Qualifications include: 

  • The ability to relate with stability and compassion to adults and children with a range of temperaments, as well as those experiencing the effects of trauma.
  • A desire to engage with the spiritual life of an ecumenical Christian community.
  • Experience with cross-cultural communication and relationships.
  • Flexibility in responding to short-notice schedule changes.
  • The ability to communicate in multiple languages is an asset, but is not required. 
  • Proficiency in basic office skills including making phone calls, online searches, and emails.

Interns are provided with housing and food as well as a small weekly living allowance. Former volunteers and interns at Jubilee have gone on to vocations in social work, immigration law, ESOL teaching, public health, refugee resettlement, and international relief.
