The Wedding Cross

Smooth as Butter

In the span of 3 weeks, I had the pleasure of witnessing 3 weddings. The first was the joining of 2 Jubilee residents. The ceremony was held on a splendid autumn day in the walnut grove near my house. Leading music from the front, I had the finest view of the nearly 200 smiling faces. They traveled from near and far, representing the last 10 years of Jubilee’s history.

The second wedding of a young couple from Comer, occurred on Thanksgiving Day in the Jubilee “cross field” where we usually only worship for Easter Sunday. Not everyone present was expecting to attend a wedding! But all were blessed by how this surprise added to the atmosphere of gratitude.

And finally, there was a wedding in the Comer Karen Church just a mile from Jubilee. Many of you will recall the terrible car accident that happened a year and a half ago where 3 youth were killed. One of those young men left a wife and daughter behind. It was this young woman whose wedding we celebrated.

We thank God for times of celebration in the midst of this world’s ever-present challenges.
