October Blog

September was the month of chestnuts! We have so many chestnut trees around the property and this year there was a more concerted effort to harvest them and invite neighbors to come harvest them as well. There were even a few truckloads of jubilee kids who went to help pick up chestnuts. Be sure to wear closed toe shoes!

We are also thankful for an abundant harvest out of the garden, and are enjoying peppers, tomatoes, eggplants and okra as well as all of the muscadines, persimmons, pineapple guava and other bounty around the property!

This month we welcomed a family with two small children who needed a place to go while they put together the pieces of a job and housing again. When their youngest was born they needed to leave everything to bring her to Atlanta’s children’s hospital to receive surgery and specialized medical care for a few months. They have appreciated a time of rest here at Jubilee after a very stressful few months, and have jumped into English classes as well as chestnut harvesting! We are grateful to have them here with us.
