Ignatian Indifference
We were recently blessed with a visit from members of the Hiwassee Bruderhof community,
including one of their elders, who was visiting for the first time. I was grateful to spend time with
Bill Wiser, who was hosted at Jubilee following the regional Nurturing Communities Network
conference.
During the visit, Mr. Wiser led one of our daily devotional services. Our community has recently
been reflecting on the idea of Ignatian Indifference, and Mr. Wiser offered meaningful insights
and experiences that deeply resonated with everyone present.
He shared an analogy about trapeze artists, who must let go of their safe hold and fling
themselves into the air, trusting the catcher. This powerfully illustrates how we are called to trust
in the Lord, rather than trying to choreograph our own lives—or the lives of others.
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
